Children’s Book Challenge
When a local synagogue needed to modify their library to become a classroom, they removed the shelving unit in the middle of the room that housed the children’s and young adult books. The books were scattered into multiple locations, and completely disorganized. The school staff found the haphazard placement of the books difficult to navigate. Having witnessed this situation, I volunteered to step in.
This project must be completed by the end of August. Please enjoy following the progress of this large scale project, and imagine how I can help take on your projects large and small!
A lot of time has passed, but the challenge was completed on time. After inputting data for the books by subject, I then shelved the books. Now the books are part of a library lining the main hallway of the synagogue’s school. It is currently being used successfully by teachers and students alike. The Children’s Book Challenge has been met!
Day 9 – Everything is sorted by subject! Time to create a basic list of the books for inventory and shelve them!
Day 8 – Almost there!
Day 7 – Making better use of space by using book carts.
Day 6 – Sorting with more table space available for the many subjects for many age groups
The subject categories are growing as more books are sorted. Now there’s a lot more open floor space too!
Day 5 – Sorting certain books to make more surface area for different categories instead of continuing with the books on the floor
Sometimes goals for the day need to change when more room is needed because certain subjects are growing.
Day 4 – More sorting, more categories, more choices
It’s always good to find references to help with subject categories.
Day 3 – Time to start sorting and reorganizing
Day 2 – Finish moving all the books
Day 1 (Part 2) – Begin moving all the books to one location (wide hallway near the library)
Day 1 (Part 1) – Find all of the books
